ACCS Curriculum updates

Updates to the 2021 ACCS Curriculum have now been approved and will be implemented from August 2025. These changes aim to provide greater clarity and flexibility for trainees and trainers alike.

Key changes include:

  • Sedation has moved from ACCS LO7 to LO5, allowing it to be assessed across all ACCS placements. A new ACCS Sedation Assessment Tool (ASAT) replaces the HALO

  • Procedural Skills (ACCS LO5) now allows evidence from simulation or relevant courses, supporting skills that are harder to demonstrate clinically

  • Pleural aspiration has been updated to include aspiration of fluid as well as air

  • Generic LOs have been clarified with new “AND/OR” wording in requirement tables.

Transition guidance and updated ARCP requirements guide are now available to view on the ACCS website. We would encourage you (trainers, trainees and resident doctors) to join the ACCS Curriculum Updates webinars below.
